72nd Tali-banned Cigar Aficionado Club Meeting..Don’t be April Fooled!

On behalf of the members of the US Embassy Chapter of the Tali-banned Cigar Aficionado Club (TCAC), I would like to invite you to join us for the 72nd meeting of the Tali-banned Cigar Aficionado Club on FRIDAY, 6 April  2012.

NOTE: This meeting will be held at the Fire Pit on the EMBASSY side.  The fire pit is located behind the Kabul Embassy Employees Association (KEEA) store, the Dry Cleaners and the Marine Security Guard Quarters. Please mark this time and date on your calendar.

MEMBERSHIP: Membership dues are a one-time donation of $50 (cash). This amount includes a lifetime membership and an embroidered Outer Banks club polo shirt. It also includes a featured premium, hand-made cigar at each meeting (when available.

FEATURED CIGAR:

The first 100 members who attend won’t be fooled because they will be smoking the #2 Cigar of the Year from Cigar Aficionado Magazine,  the 5.5 X 54  La Aroma de Cuba Belicoso cigar. Attending members who do not receive a featured cigar will be provided another premium cigar.

Ashton Distributors Inc. has owned its own cigar brands for more than 25 years, but the company has broken new ground with the creation of La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor. The cigar brand is the first from Philadelphia’s Ashton to be made with a Mexican wrapper.

Mexican leaf has been used forever in the cigar industry, but Ashton has always opted to use Connecticut broadleaf on its dark cigars. Most Mexican maduros are made with a leaf known as San Andrés Negro, while these La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amors have wrappers grown from Cuban seeds. The lush and fertile San Andrés Valley outside of Veracruz turns these leaves dark and oily, packing them with flavor.

La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor is rolled for Ashton in Nicaragua at My Father Cigars, the massive factory run by the talented Garcia family. Originally from Cuba, José “Pepin” Garcia, his son Jaime and daughter Janny now make millions of cigars at My Father, perhaps none finer than the La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor Belicoso. They combine Nicaraguan tobacco they grow themselves—using two binder leaves, as is their custom—with this dark, Mexican wrapper, and the combination is sublime. The tidy Belicoso is a box-pressed smoke that burns beautifully and has a lovely woody component balanced by notes of sweet nougat and copious amounts of nuts on the palate.

These cigars are not only delicious, but consistent. This is the second year running a Mi Amor has made our Top 25 list.

Due to limited quantities of the featured cigars, a lifetime membership of  573 and an average attendance of 80-100 aficionados, you must attend and participate in the meeting to receive a cigar.

70th Tali-banned Cigar Aficionado Club Meeting…Happy St. Patrick’s Day

On behalf of the members of the US Embassy Chapter of the Tali-banned Cigar Aficionado Club (TCAC), I would like to invite you to join us for the 70th meeting of the Tali-banned Cigar Aficionado Club on FRIDAY, 16 March 2012.

MEMBERSHIP: Membership dues are a one-time donation of $50 (cash). This amount includes a lifetime membership and an embroidered Outer Banks club polo shirt. It also includes a featured premium, hand-made cigar at each meeting (when available.

FEATURED CIGAR:

The first 100 members who attend will be smoking a “Bit O’ the Green” when they receive the 6.5 X 58 CAO Lot 58 OSA Sol cigar. Attending members who do not receive a featured cigar will be provided another premium cigar.

Introducing OSA Sol, CAO’s most unique creation to date.

The secret between CAO OSA Sol is the wrapper. This exquisite leaf is grown in Olancho, San Agustin, a fertile valley of Honduras surrounded by tree covered mountains. This field is hugged by a crystal clear river, feeding the sun-nurtured tobaccos with pure spring waters and producing a uniquely robust and earth wrapper leaf. A sun-grown leaf, hence CAO OSA Sol.

CAO OSA Sol marks the first use of this rare, proprietary tobacco variety.

A glorious presentation to see and burn, each cigar contains a flavorful OSA sun-grown wrapper chock full of Nicaraguan and Honduran long-fillers inside a hearty Connecticut Broadleaf binder. Medium in body, CAO OSA Sol gushes with rustic tobacco flavors enhanced by earthy undertones, subtle spices, and a touch of leather.

Aromatic is an understatement, as each OSA Sol fills the air above with thick clouds of smoke and a lovely, rich, earthy scent.

Due to limited quantities of the featured cigars, a lifetime membership of  573 and an average attendance of 80-100 aficionados, you must attend and participate in the meeting to receive a cigar.

SPONSOR:

The cigars average $135 for a box of 25 and were purchased with club funds from TCAC member and sponsor David Haddad of Fumar Cigars USA for this meeting .

69th Tali-banned Cigar Aficionado Club Meeting…Infusion Confusion

On behalf of the members of the US Embassy Chapter of the Tali-banned Cigar Aficionado Club (TCAC), I would like to invite you to join us for the 69th meeting of the Tali-banned Cigar Aficionado Club on FRIDAY, 2 March 2012.

NOTE: This meeting will be held at our new location at the Fire Pit on the EMBASSY side.  The fire pit is located behind the Kabul Embassy Employees Association (KEEA) store, the Dry Cleaners and the Marine Security Guard Quarters. Please mark this time and date on your calendar.

FEATURED CIGAR:

The first 96 members who attend will receive the 5X54 Acid (Drew Estate) Kuba-Kuba cigar. Attending members who do not receive a featured cigar will be provided another premium cigar.

Acid Kuba-Kuba Natural cigars were the first ACID cigars instantly embraced by the country, and still the best-selling cigar in their ‘blue label’ series.

Wrapped in a dark, oily and virtually seamless Sumatra wrapper.

Medium in body with the Robusto shape Kuba-Kuba is the most aromatic of ACID cigars and among the most flavorful, too.

Acid cigars are a testament to not accepting the “way it is” while not ignoring the traditions of those who have gone before. It is a blending of ancient and old world tobacco knowledge with a bit of daring to be different

War College Cigar Club 3rd Meeting

Thanks to all aficionados who were able to make the meeting last week.  Great smoke!  Although it was somewhat strong for some of the more tender palates.. We discussed the characteristics the wrapper made in the smoke, and various lighting techniques.

Here are a couple of pictures from last weeks meeting, and the flyer for the next smoke on 7 MAR at McKay’s Cave.  Then we’ll return to Johnson’s Pipe shop on 21 MAR.

When we meet at the Cave, on 7 MAR, please bring at least three sticks to share/swap.  If you aren’t sure what to bring, stop by Johnson’s Pipe shop and let Dave assist you.  We’ll also have some door prizes, so bring $5 for raffle tickets.  Every should leave with at least two new sticks to try.

We are all getting busy again finishing up our research projects and the SDME, but don’t forget to take the time for strategic thought and reflection, with a cigar of course!

Cheers!

Neal
