Humidors

When they hear the word humidor, most people think of a lovely wooden container designed to hold cigars. When I think of a humidor, I think of a device that holds in moisture and creates a self-contained tropical environment for cigars.

No matter how lovely a humidor is, if it can’t maintain a constant balance of moisture around the cigars, it’s just a box.

The job of a humidor is to maintain a constant balance of moisture with help from you, the rain-maker.

* Cigars should never be kept anywhere that’s prone to growing mold ort fungus; that includes damp basements. If your basement is cool and dry, that’s perfect place to store cigars.

* Never store cigars in a place that dramatic swings in temperature like a partially-enclosed sun porch or attic that’s only occasionally
heated or cooled. The wrappers will split open is they’re exposed to extreme temperatures.

* Avoid storing cigars in garages or outbuildings unless they are kept at the same temperature as your house.

*It’s best to store the cigars in your house even if you don’t smoke in the house.

The goal is to keep your cigars between 65-70%F and 70% humidity.
