Hygrometers Measure Humidity

Most humidors come equipped with hygrometers. Before use, you should calibrate it for accuracy.

SALT TEST

  1. Place a teaspoon of salt in a plastic dish and add just enough water to make it damp
  2. Place the dish in a zip-lock plastic bag and place the hygrometer next to it. Be careful not to spill any water onto the hygrometer
  3. Seal the plastic bag, leaving some air trapped inside.
  4. Allow the hygrometer to sit for at least 6 hours
  5. After the time has elapsed, the hygrometer should read 75% humidity
  6. Some hygrometers have a small screw on the back that will allow you to adjust the reading if it is incorrect
  7. If yours does not have the screw, make a note of the deviation from 75%
  8. To ensure accurate readings, do not place your hygrometer next to the humidifier
  9. Mounting your hygrometer on the interior lid or on a shelf inside the humidor is recommended
